Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa announces sophisticated fourth floor transformation

St Andrews, Scotland – 20th February 2025 – Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa, the iconic luxury destination overlooking the world's most famous golf course, announces an extensive interior renovation of its fourth floor, embodying the hotel's commitment to thoughtful evolution while honouring its deep-rooted connection to St Andrews.

The refurbishment, scheduled for completion in spring 2025, represents the hotel's dedication to creating individually designed experiences that reflect both its heritage and future. The celebrated Road Hole Restaurant, Road Hole Bar and Boardroom will be transformed, alongside a redecoration of some suites and refined enhancements in select bedrooms – all while preserving the gracious spirit of Scottish hospitality that defines the property.

"This renovation exemplifies our ethos of being always evolving while remaining true to our roots," says Phyllis Wilkie, General Manager, Old Course Hotel Golf Resort & Spa. "As custodians of this remarkable location, we're creating sophisticated, comfortable spaces that better connect our guests with both each other and our spectacular home in St Andrews. Every design decision has been made with our commitment to sustainable practices and our community in mind."

The redesign thoughtfully considers the hotel's remarkable views over the Old Course and West Sands Beach, creating intimate seating pockets throughout the Road Hole Restaurant and Bar that ensure these iconic vistas remain a focal point while offering a more integrated dining experience. The spaces will feature bespoke furniture, including comfortable sofas and cocktail-height tables in the bar area, designed to encourage the relaxed, thoughtful hospitality that defines the Old Course Hotel experience.

The project showcases British and Scottish craftsmanship, with bespoke furniture manufactured in the UK and fabrics sourced from Scottish suppliers. The new design scheme includes rich dark blue walls in the restaurant that transition seamlessly from day to night, while the Road Hole Bar will feature sophisticated dark chocolate panelling complemented by classic leather Chesterfield seating – each element carefully chosen to highlight the distinctive setting, outstanding quality, and ensure unforgettable experiences for guests.

During the renovation period, guests will continue to enjoy the hotel's exceptional dining experiences across multiple venues, each offering its own unique twist on Scottish hospitality:

  • Breakfast is served in The Conservatory and at The Duke's Bar & Restaurant
  • Lunch options include The Conservatory, The Jigger Inn, Hams Hame, The Duke's Bar & Restaurant, and the Spa Café
  • Dinner is available at The Conservatory, The Jigger Inn, and Hams Hame
  • The traditional Afternoon Tea experience continues in The Conservatory
  • Drinks can be enjoyed at the Swilcan Loft, The Jigger Inn, and Hams Hame, with daytime service available at The Duke's Bar & Restaurant and Spa Café until 4pm

This fourth-floor transformation is part of a broader series of enhancements at Old Course Hotel, including the upcoming renovation of the Kohler Waters Spa from April to late summer 2025. The spa renovation will introduce new features such as an innovative snow and sauna cabin, enhanced facilities, and upgraded sustainability measures, further demonstrating our commitment to always evolving while delivering thoughtful expertise in every aspect of the guest experience.
